HaulTech are proud to be celebrating Sally Hall for Women’s History Month.

Sally Hall works at family-run R Bunton Ltd. The Bradford-based company was established in 1970 and specialises in a variety of areas from plant hire to aggregate and haulage. Sally began working part-time in transport whilst deciding what career to pursue. Her father started out as a HGV driver and since she was a young girl, he would often take her on road-trips. Sally realised that transport is in her blood and decided to pursue a career in the industry.

Sally’s gender created challenges for her in the industry, she was once told by her male counterpart that she cannot do the same work as him. In polite response, Sally stood by her values and studied to get the relevant qualifications to prove she can do the same job as anyone else in the business. Sally believes “if you are confident in what you say, stand by your values then you will prove yourself.”

Whilst working her way up the ranks at R Bunton Ltd, Sally realised there was a lack of diversity in the industry and certain people were underrepresented. As a result of her realisation, she worked with other female hauliers and helped to launch She’s RHA in 2016. She’s RHA was an initiative to give women a platform to discuss “industry related issues and share best practices and ideas.”

She similarly recognised that younger generations were not joining the transport industry and couldn’t quite understand the reasons why. Sally said, “there are plenty of opportunities in the industry from driving to HR, there are so many career paths for people to take.”

Sally worked with R Bunton Ltd to run career days in schools to show students there are options in the transport industry that they may not have considered. She also runs open days to show the younger generation what day-to-day work is like in the transport industry. Sally noted, “certainly since organising these events, Bunton’s workforce has become more diverse and we are able to mould careers for all newcomers.”

Sally advises aspiring women to “be your own person and people will realise your capabilities.”

HaulTech are honoured to be celebrating Sally Hall and her work for diversity during Women’s History Month.
