Wood and sheet metal supplier Panelco are using HaulTech’s TrakMan platform to monitor and protect their vehicles.

Panelco is a wood and sheet metal supplier based in Stoke-on-Trent. The company has over 30 years of experience in providing a range of over 7000 different products across the globe to huge businesses such as B&Q. Panelco has gone from strength to strength since its inception and is now one of the UK’s most renowned suppliers in the sheet wood industry. They deliver their goods across the country with an in-house fleet of over 50 HGV vehicles. Since the Direct Vision Standard came into place, the national supplier has continuously enhanced their fleet through the use of HaulTech’s vehicle solutions to ensure the safety of their drivers and the people who come across their vehicles.

With HaulTech’s 360° vehicle CCTV system, Panelco’s drivers will have full visibility on the roads. No more blind spots. The onboard monitors will allow professional drivers to see what is going on around them and prevent potential incidents. The companies Group Operations Manager, Steve Hughes commented “the drivers are incredibly pleased with the cameras which dramatically reduce the number of blind spots. Since DVS was announced we (Panelco) made a pledge that all new HGV’s will have a 3-star minimum DVS rating. This together with the HaulTech camera and sensor system has created a very safe vehicle and helped to reduce the total amount of accidents by 20%.”

However with more than 250 deaths a year being caused by HGV’s, the company wanted to go above and beyond providing safety solely for themselves, they also wanted to give other road users and the wider community the ability to have visibility of their trucks. By having audible alarms installed, the heavy-duty vehicles announce when they are turning and reversing, so other drivers and road-users can plan their course of action accordingly. The vehicles are also installed with strobe lighting which alerts people with hearing loss that the vehicle is manoeuvring. Steve said, “it’s unbelievable how far technology has come, HaulTech’s system is not only making safety a priority but it’s making it accessible to those with disabilities.”

HaulTech is proud to be supporting Panelco to make safety accessible for their staff and other road users.
