A family-run haulier in Cumbria is saving time and improving compliance, all thanks to their new Transport Management System (TMS).
HBP Transport, based in Barrow-in-Furness, handles nearly everything from plant equipment to waste management. It runs 16 trucks and 24 vans and is investing in new HGVs. It also holds an upper-tier waste carrier’s licence for muck shifts and operates its own waste transfer station for inert spoils and construction materials.
Initially, HBP was looking to replace its old vehicle tracking system, but after meeting with HaulTech, they decided to go for a full TMS.
“We had a tracking system, but it wasn’t giving us the reporting and compliance data we needed,” said Julie Cooper, HBP’s transport administrator.
“We looked at a few options, but HaulTech stood out as it offered everything we needed – from tracking and vehicle defects checks to job planning, right through to invoicing.”
HaulTech’s TMS is designed for hauliers like HBP, cutting admin time by up to 80% and helping to manage costs.
The TMS allows users to easily create, schedule, assign, and manage jobs in one place. It also streamlines invoicing and integrates with accounting software like Sage.
HBP makes the most of key features, including vehicle defect checks, proof of delivery via a driver app, job booking and management, Sage integration, and vehicle tracking.
“The TMS is great for managing jobs from start to finish,” added Julie. “Manually inputting tickets onto invoices used to take so much time, but going paperless with HaulTech has really sped things up.”
HaulTech’s flexibility and customer service have been key for HBP. “The team has been brilliant – they made sure everything was customised for us,” said Julie. “We asked for some changes to the vehicle defects check on the app, and they made it happen. This ensures we get the compliance information we need, in the format we want.”
“The tracking is also really helpful. We cover a lot of rural areas where satnavs can struggle, but with the tracking, we can see exactly where a vehicle is and guide it in. It’s also handy for breakdowns – we can give our recovery provider the vehicle’s exact location to get help quickly.”
