Downes Transport install HaulTech’s Vehicle CCTV solutions to emphasise on driver safety and become Direct Vision Standard compliant.

Downes Transport formed in June 1995 and have gone from strength to strength, beginning with only 2 vans and now operating a fleet of 19 vehicles. The haulier, who recently celebrated their 25th anniversary, delivers metal parts for the oil industry and rubber dog toys for the pet industry, amongst other items. The Wiltshire-based haulier caters for whatever their customers want, which is why they are able to work with commercial giants like Home Bargains. The family-ran firm are also a part of the United Pallet Network (UPN) and recently won the Hub Depot of the Year and were runner-up in the Sales Depot of the Year at the UPN Annual Awards 2020.

Craig Downes, Company Director of Downes Transport, applauded HaulTech for helping his company to become compliant with the Direct Vision Standard and mentioned his drivers praised “HaulTech’s camera and tracking system. With it they feel safer on the roads.” HaulTech’s vehicle CCTV solutions enhance a drivers vision of their blind spots through connected a 360° system and dashboard monitor. Drivers are now able to operate with improved visibility and drive safely without having to worry if a third party is in their blind spot.

Downes Transport operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, travelling through the night. HaulTech’s vehicle CCTV uses night vision technologies, facilitating the same visibility enhancements for drivers and allowing them to operate safely in the dark. HaulTech’s integrated vehicle CCTV and tracking system, TrakMan, benefits transport offices by giving them the ability to retrieve footage on an easy-to-use system. Captured footage can then be used to mitigate false claims against drivers, allowing them to keep their wheels turning.

The system also displays, drivers locations, the route the driver travelled and the performance of a vehicle. TrakMan’s vehicle performance rating allows transport managers to view what miles per gallon a vehicle is getting and use this information to better improve their fuel consumption. Craig Downes spoke about HaulTech’s TrakMan system, “HaulTech have helped us to save money by reducing our fuel cost and improving our bottom line”.

Continuing their emphasis on driver safety, HaulTech have provided Downes Transport with the relevant ‘Safe System’ needed, in-line with Direct Vision Standard, to help them continue their operations in London securely and hassle-free. Each year there are more than 2000 serious injuries or deaths on London’s streets, the Direct Vision Standard scheme aims to stop this.
