We sit down with Aggreg8’s Director, Clint Layzell to discuss all things transport.
Essex-based haulier, Aggreg8 specialises in moving (you guessed it) aggregate materials such as sand, hardcore and topsoil. The company focuses on being environmentally friendly and is centred on reducing its carbon emissions and improving its recycling percentages. In September 2022, Aggreg8 will celebrate its first anniversary. In their first year, the company has seen tremendous growth and has built great relationships with customers. To help spearhead their future, Director, Clint Layzell wanted to bring in a Transport Management System (TMS) that would see the company process work more efficiently. After looking across the market, Aggreg8 chose HaulTech to be their TMS provider. We sit down with Clint to discuss his company, his decision to join HaulTech and his thoughts on the future of transport.
HaulTech: Can you tell us how you have found Aggreg8’s first year?
Clint: Launching a business is obviously a challenging task in the best of times, never mind whilst exiting a pandemic and a national gas price hike. But despite the challenges we face at Aggreg8 and other haulage companies are facing, we have had a great first year and really nailed down on building strong relationships with our customers.
HaulTech: You take quite a strong stance on improving the company’s environmental impact, can you tell us about that?
Clint: Driving trucks is a necessity for the UK so we can obviously get the goods we need to be transported, but we aren’t oblivious to the number of emissions using trucks provides and how that impacts the environment indirectly. So I want to make sure Aggreg8 does all it can to provide a positive outcome, this includes driving more efficiently, improving our recycling percentages and becoming paperless which is what the Transport Management System helps us to do.
HaulTech: You mentioned having a Transport Management System in place is helping you to reduce your use of paper and go towards becoming paperless, is this the reason you wanted a system?
Clint: Being paperless is a massive thing for a company like ours but also having a TMS in place is much more than that. I have worked in this sector for just under two decades and have seen the sheer amount of effort it takes to run a back office and deal with the amount of paperwork. The amount of duplication can really cause a downward spiral in productivity and I didn’t want Aggreg8 to ever get to that point. So we wanted a system to future-proof our processes and give our staff the tools they need so they can do their job in a more linear way.
HaulTech: Do you see technology becoming an integral part of transport?
Clint: Sure, the world is progressing each day with more technologies and so forth, it seems fitting that this industry is moving forward with that progress. I saw it integral to the business that we use technology like the Transport Management System to run our processes. As the world moves forward, our customers move forward and that means we have to keep up.
HaulTech: And would you mind telling us why you chose HaulTech over other Transport Software providers?
Clint: To be honest it has to be the service, everyone we have spoken to so far has been attentive and friendly. That being said the technology also does exactly what we need it to do with no complications, so HaulTech was perfect for us.
